Question Preferred Oil Filter for our LT1's

Ok, so we got in the little debate over in the other post about fuel filters, so you guys got me thinkin now about ditching the fram's..

My questions are:

What should I go with instead?
What are you using?
Brand/Part#/Price

Thank You....

I like the K&N oil filters myself, since they flow extremely well (which is more critical in a hard driven car).

I use the longer version too, the HP3002.

A lot of people think these 10 micron filters are better, however keep in mind that the LT1 has looser clearances, so a 15 or even 20 micron particle of dirt can pass through our engines without creating any wear.

So I'd recommend avoiding the Mobil 1 filter and the PureONE, and definitely Fram (due to their shoddy workmanship)

Amsoil also makes a very good oil filter that flows very well, and Wix/Napa Gold is also excellent (and is my second choice to the K&Ns)

That is the best filter I have ever found for my car, that is one sweet filter, I tried one of them once. Lately I have been using the AC Delco PF35 just because it is available off the shelf and is supposed to be a very good filter for the price. I had to order the K&N. I'm just going to order a bunch of them from Thunder or Summit next time I place an order.

how come? i agree on the FRAM filter being a POS, but mobil 1 is suppose to be one of the best filters on the market and the pureONE filter is the best behind the mobil1, ac delco, and k&n, but it has a much better price.

The problem with both the Mobil 1 and the PureONE is that in order to get the good filtration numbers they get, they sacrifice some oil flow. This isn't as much of a problem if you don't drive at full throttle too often, but when you do, these filters show a higher pressure drop.

What about the Wal-Mart brand SuperTech. I've read some good things about them somewhere before but can't remember where. They're cheap too, so that's what I used with my Mobil 1 10w-30 yesterday.

I noticed that problem with the Pure1 filter on my engine too.

Ah yes, the Walmart Supertech filter! Excellent filter for the money! Only $2, but yet they do flow very well. These filters are made by Champion Labs (who make the K&N, Mobil 1, Bosch Premium, and Ultraguard Gold) They also make the STP oil filter, which is an identical copy to the Supertech.

Unfortunately they do not sell this filter at Walmarts in Canada, just in the US.

I ran it on my 97 with 94 style SLP's and it was no problem. The 93 & 94 design is almost identical.
