power wire

I'm rebuilding my lt1 and the car started once but now it wont start. I reallized the power wire is hot and smoke comes form the starter area when I try to start it. I bought a new starter and its still doing it. Any Ideas on what might be causing it?

I was wondering where the long ground wire would go, that runs down the harness with the three that ground off to the coil. My car is a 94 if that matters because I caint find that wire on any of the diagram

The only long wire that is bundled with the coil wiring is for the temp sensor in the head. The wire is green.

Check to see if your main hot cable is contacting the starter or header .My is a 94 I have two wires that go to the starter one main hot cable and a purple wire from ing a small black wire for pcm ground and knock s wire. Could be hot is grounding out some place coming down from the bat .
