Hey guys
I finally got the heads back on and the car running . Now the steering gets a little hard when turning seems like it comes and goes.How can i tell if its the pump or the rack?

I think that'd be the pump. Does it make any noise when you turn, like a groning noise? Usually the rack and pinion doesn't go bad unless it's in an accident or something.

 

Check that your waterpump weep hole isn't dripping of the accessory belt; this will cause steering to act up.

its got a new belt and water pump. But that doesn't mean its not leaking.Also it doesn't make any noise just gets hard then a little easier but mostly real hard to turn when going slow you can feel it tighten up. its not smooth at all.

Something might be wrong with the pump then. If you can still turn the wheel then you know the rack is fine. But if the pump isn't pumping fluid through the rack it's obviously going to make it hard to turn. I'd start with the pump/lines.

 

The rack usually pops when it is bad, or at least that has been my experience.

 

Have you checked the power steering fluid level? When was the last time the fluid was changed/how many miles on the fluid?

 

it has plenty of fluid .i bought the car with 125000 miles on it .i have never changed the fluid myself. it now has 138000 miles on the car.
