Power Steering Pump....

I hear some mad squealing from the general area of the Steering Pump on my 93' lt1. It doesnt do it at idle, but if i give it some gas it will squeal like a pig. I dont think the actual pump is in bad shape, I havent noticed any differences in steering or leaks or anything of that nature. I did spray out my engine bay with a hose and some engine brite yesterday to get rid of a bunch of oil and gunk from working on my AC hoses and more. I already sprayed some grease all up in the area between the pulley and the power steering pump, the pulley seems real smooth. I dont kno what the deal is now. Maybe it will just go away if i drive it a little. Any thoughts would be great.

Re: Power Steering Pump....

Okay...I no longer believe that it is the power steering pump. I wanna say it is the Idler pulley...or Tensioner pulley maybe is what its called. Its the pulley that you must force down to remove and re-install the drive-belt with. That is the pulley I believe is squealing really bad. I wonder what this consists of to replace...I wonder if a parts store will carry that piece and what the piece is called..."Tensioner Pulley"???? I dont know, any help?

AutoZone can special order it for dirt cheap. Not an expensive part at all, and a snap to replace. Good luck.

At AZ and O'Reilly, they call them "Belt Tensioners." That should make it easy to find.
