Power steering gone??????

I never had a problem with my power steering, but now its basically gone. It will kind of come and go. Fluid level is full and i dont see any leaking out of any lines. PUMP???

Also at the same time i am now leaking coolent. Its not much, but i can smell it and some of if it leaking onto the belt and being sprayed everywhere. I couldnt find any cracked hoses, they all seem fine, and non of the hoses are wet except for the ones that got sprayed. WATER PUMP?????? (there goes the opti)

Need help, it seems that some new problem arises everyday with this car.

I'm guessing that your coolant is leaking on the belt causing the belt to slip therefore seeming like your power steering is gone.

I second this. When my water pump was going, the coolant got on the belt and sprayed everywhere and it made my power steering seem like it was taking a dump. Fix the water pump, it doesn't take much to make the belt slip.

I definitely had the same problem. My water pump was changed and everything was OK.

Let your car sit for a while and as the belt dries up your PS should come back until the belt gets wet again.

Change your Opti as well while your in there or you'll be back in there before you know it. Guess how I know all that!

Good luck

Yup.. same problem here, odds are you really wount notice the leak, its usually small, just enough to get some antifreeze on your pullies and make them slip, I also had my alternator slipping, and the power would just drop to 12V once and a whille.... It was scary

If you want to stay with the same type of pump rather than electric, just mosey on down to Autozone and pick one up. Reman's with a 1 year are about $50. Brand new with a lifetime are around $130.
