Unhappy Power steering

Ok guys need some help. Went to drive home one day and all my power steering fluid flew out of the resevior cap. I replaced the pump and the steering box along with all the lines. I have an aftermarket resevior with a vent hole in it. Well I am trying to bleed the system and everything looks fine until I start it. That is when the fluid comes spraying out the vent hole. I read that this would mean that air is in the system. I keep trying to bleed it in fact I have been working on it all day. While I was bleeding the system without it running I only saw a bubble or two when I turned it to the right. Any idea on why it is coming out the resevior and how long it should take to bleed the system. Any tricks.

do not start the car with no fluid in the pump...it'll burn up

firstly, seal the system after making sure all lines are Properly hooked.

second, either buy a pump and vac the air out (easiest and should be done this way) or leave the car off, lift the front and manually turn the wheels by pushing them untill no more air comes to the fill box. keep topping off as needed. once no more air comes up by pushing the wheels, move to the steering wheel. again, top off as needed. then turn the car on and move left/right NOT LOCKING THE WHEEL ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, BUT TURNING ONLY ABOUT 3/4 TURN EACH WAY. you'll hear a buzzing sound as the bubbles come up, that's fine. keep doing the 3/4 thing until no more buzzing. then move to full lock left/right until you get all the air out....this will take forever if you dont have a vacuum.

the vacuum is simple, a brake bleeder pump with a drain vial attached to one end and a beaker stop with a hole in it attached to the vial. put the beaker stop on top of the fill cap and pull a vac. do not pull more than 20 hg's. once you can pull 20 for 5 minutes without losing 2, you're good

Ok I went out and bought a vac pump and am in the process of bleeding it that way. You stated going to 20 and when I can hold 20 for 5 min. without losing 2 I am good. How long should this take. I have been at it for about 10 min. If it continues to drop what could be the problem.

it takes a while...i think when i did my jeep it took about 30 minutes to get all the air out.

but, it wouldnt go up to 20, i could only go up to 15. so...you may not be able to get up to 20...that's just the suggested pressure or vacuum. also, if you're ever doing a honda, 20 wont happen either...15 max there too.

so, pull a 15 hg vac and hold it for 5 minutes.

hate to dig this up, but where did you guys get the vacuum pump that you mentioned? Ive heard of the brake pump system that locks on to your brake fluid resevoir and applies pressure to the brake system. and i have a mighty vac also for brake lines, but really curious about the vacuum system for the power steering pump.
