Powder coating the fuel rails and intake manifold

Did anyone powder coat their intake or fuel rails in here? I know the LT4 intakes come powder coated but does it keep the heat in, does the powder coat act as an insulation (heatsoak). I would like to do my intake red and just clear the polished rails. Just getting some thoughts wether or not if it is a good idea. Thanks for any replies....John.

It's probably too thin to make much of a difference. Plus it'll be a lot easier to clean with less bare aluminum.

How did you polish your rails? I have my engine waiting to go in and this would be a fun project to do while it is waiting.

Rubbing compound, then polishing compound, then Blue Magic. All just used on a rag, and wiped off with a clean rag...

You did the polishing by hand. Wasnt it hard to get in the cracks and things like that? They look very nice and well worth the time to do. i would like to do this and would like to know all the details if you ever get time to tell me. A PM would be nice.

Re: Powder coating the fuel rails and intake manifold

I seriously doubt GM powder coated the LT4 intake to "keep the heat it"..... why would you want to keep heat in an intake manifold?

If the rails are badly corroded, a little aluminum polish on a soft cloth is all it takes to give them a mirror finish. Depending on how bad they are corroded, you may need to start with sandpaper, and work your way down to finer and finer grits (e.g. 600-grit, 1000-grit) and then hit them with a machine applied polishing compound and then the had finish with something like Mother's Incredible Billet polish.

Re: Powder coating the fuel rails and intake manifold

I powdercoated my intake, and polished my fuel rails. I've got a second set of rails that I'm thinking of having powdercoated black chrome (along with a set of valve covers) though, just can't make up my mind on them because of how the fins on the manifold are polished. I'm just not too sure if that would stick out too much or not.

That was with Blue Magic metal polish and a dremel with buffing wheel.

Here is a picture of my intake.

I think some polished rails would be the finishing touch.
