Question Possible to use 1.7 RRs w/ xe221/227 or xe224/230?

Is it possible to run 1.7 RRs with an xe221/227 or xe224/230 cam and stock valve covers without doing any machine work on the heads. I know I will need to get new springs, locks, retainers, shims, guideplates, and all the other associated hardware.

just wondering if the stock valvetrain setup can take that kind of lift. The lift on the 221/227 cam is 0.54x on the intake and 0.56x on the exhaust. The lift on the 224/230 is slightly less. I'm leaning towards the the 221/227 because it's got less duration and more lift, but also wanting to use the 1.7 RRs if possible. The goal here is to stuff as much air in the cylinders as I can without losing the LT1's good ole' low end torque.

Thanks

That's a 612/634 lift cam...
You won't be doing that with stock heads without workin on them.

I have a cam that's 576/596 being installed on 1.5's. I traded my 1.6's for 1.5's so that I wouldn't be over 600 lift on mildly hand ported heads.

CMS sells higher lift versions of those cams. You might as well just buy one of those and have the lift in the lobe.

mtxpert, which cam are you referring to? The 221/227 cam I want to get is the one mentioned here in this thread. It's from CMS and the lift numbers and lsa are listed with it.

Moore94Z, won't having too much lift in the lobe itself cause problems for the lifters at high RPMS? I imagine excessive lift on the lobe might cause the lifters to float at high RPMs.

I think just get the higher lift cam and go with 1.6's. I don't think you will get float if you have good enough springs.
