1.7 rockers questions...

Alright heres the deal. I have the XE224/230 cam now, and I know id have to eventually go bigger someday to get bigger HP numbers. I like the duration numbers on the cam, but the lift #s could be better. Adding 1.7 rockers would fix this wouldnt it, well I know that theyd increase lift, but what would be the downsides to doing this, i understand it makes the valvetrain that much less stable and puts strain on springs and stuff. But would it be bad since the cam is made for the lift it produces?

Also who makes 1.7s for LT1s?
Right now the plan would be the ones thunderracing sells, the rail mount ones, since that would stabilize the valvetrain a bunch.

Oh and who knows what the lift would be on this cam with 1.7s, its .510 and .521 with 1.5s.

I dont know of anyone that makes 1.7s for an LT1. But to figure out what your lift would be, take your present lift, divide by your present rocker ratio (1.5?) and than times it by 1.7. Hope this helps. Prorac1

1.6s work good too. They increse lift by about .030 (so your came would be .540 intake and .551 exhaust), not sure how much 1.7s lift it. Not sure if they hurt the valvetrain much. You can get 1.6s from comp cams. I have never heard of 1.7s for the LT1, but they might be out there. Hope this helps.

I have 1.6 magnums now, Im gonna have to get new rockers sometime anyway, originally planned on promags, but there was a LT1 bolt on shootout in a chevy high performance mag i think it was, and the fastest cars in there had 1.7s, i know you can get them in the T&D railmount form since it says specify ratio, and since they are railmounts they can do that, but those are $800, they have to make them, i dont see why not, anybody heard of them?

intake with 1.7 would be .578 and exhaust will be .590. it'll probably kill your springs. and if you have stock heads it'll take them above where they flow best you cams lift with 1.6 rockers is almost dead on for lt1 stock castings.

edit
i see that you have ported and polished heads. in that case they might help but the only ones i've seen are over 400 dollars. that kind of money can be spent better elsewhere.

You just can't stand it can you? You don't even have that new cam broken in yet. Already looking for the next thing.

Ive got the disease, what can I say.

It probly wont be for a while, I was actually just curious, Ive never seen a post on here about 1.7s so I thought I might as well ask. Im sure the 1.6s are fine for me, Ill bet the money will be better spent in gettting the heads done better with bigger valves.

Go to 1.6's, most setups don't need 1.7's but they do help.

Comp has some Hi Tech Stainless 1.7's, you need guide plates and the springs to work with the extra lift.

Or just get the 1.6's, springs and cam to make .600 lift. I have a 224/230 .600/.600 (w/ 1.6's) in a engine in the shop right now. That's probably a easier thing to do, before you buy a cam.

Says Available for SBC and BBC, This is the first i have heard of someone wanting to use 1.7's in a LT1, the LS1 guys use 1.7's or what a sec don't they come with 1.7's? Will have to agree with someone that said match the lift to the heads. too much lift can hurt your flow, and kill port velocity.

This is why I asked the question, I knew there was probably a reason no one uses them. I guess theyre good for strictly bolt on cars, to increase stock cam lift. Ill save my money. I think that LS1s come with 1.7s and aftermarket are 1.8.

Says those kind of rockers are available for bbc and sbc. It doesn't say that 1.7s are available for sbc

On the drop down, it only goes to 1.6 for sbc

Crower makes 1.65 rockers, if you really want them, however, you should check to see if your heads support that lift or not....
