My WS6 has the service engine soon light on so I scanned it and it came up with "inefficient catalyst bank one." What do I need to do to fix it, can you unclog them or do I need to buy an aftermarket cat and weld it in? I don't want to knock it out because of the 02 sensor after the cat, so I am currently at a standstill. The car is a 97.

Well a couple of things could have happened.

1. Unburned fuel reached the catalyst material...usually makes the internal temperature raise...sometimes til the entire midsection of the converter is glowing orange. This makes the catalyst material melt together making this solid ball that will just sit inside of ur converter...or pass through to the muffler. Are you running richer than Oprah? Misfires? Excessive N20 Usage? Bunch of things cause this.

2. The Pre and Post O2 sensors monitor the catalyst efficiency, not monitor flow. If the catalyst does not reach proper temperature, it doesn't function as efficient as it is supposed to, and the post O2 sensor picks up on this. As they get older, they don't function as well and it also picks up on that.

Oh yeah, monitor the PID data on ur scan tool and make sure that all the O2 sensors are switching back and forth in the appropriate voltage range. Don't chunk ur cats unless you have too, they're expensive!

If you want to step up...check out Random Tech's website. They have some nice converter/y-pipe combos. Or you could pay close to the same price for the OEM one from GM...but then again STOCK SUX

Well it is not running really rich, the scanner picked up no misfires, and the nitrous system is on my other Trans am, and has never been sprayed on this car. I will pull the pipe off and give it a look.
