possible short? check guages

my check guages light is on but only halfway illuminated. i know the guage light works because it is fully illuminated when i start the car. i have been told it is possible that i have a bad diode in the alternator. besides that, i don't even know where to start looking. this light really irritates me so any suggestions would be great. the guages in the vehicle all look good. the only thing is my oil pressure is pretty low. at full temp it is about 10psi. i have already replaced the sending unit. possibly i need a new oil pump or pickup or even a rebuild. thanks

10psi is too low. Even if it's just at idle that's too low! If you're only getting 10 when you're cruising then stop driving. My car did this a while ogo when I tried to run a PF35. I went home and changed to a PF25 and 10W30. No more psi problem and my check gauges light went out. Why don't you take that to an auto store with free testing to get the alternator checked out? If it has a bad diode I would think it should show up for sure there. Otherwise you're going to be left stranded.

10 psi is at idle when warm. it is about 30 when driving. i am running 10-30 right now. i had the computer scanned at autozone and no codes came up. i don't believe codes will come up unless the check engine light is on. thanks for the suggestion.

You're right, it won't throw a code unless the SES light is on. But what I was talking about was to have a bench test ran on the alternator. And those places will do a free bench or load test on alternators and batteries.

sorry, i misunderstood what you were saying. i think i will get that bench tested. it should not be the battery because it was just replaced and it did not affect the check guages light. i know they said the alternator was putting out good voltage because they checked it. now if it has a bad diode or something, who knows. thanks for the help
