Possible problem after cam install

Well before I start I dont have the new tune in and I need a new set of spark plugs. Anyways I finally got the cam in and decided I would start up the car and see how it ran. I ran it for about 3 seconds and right before I turned the car off I heard it backfire. could this be because the timing is off with the stock tune? I dont think the plugs would have as much effect on it as the tune would. Any ideas?

I would check to make sure the rockers are adjusted properly. Sometimes a misadjusted rocker will cause that problem.

Well we couldn't here any of them ticking so none of them seem to be loose. Would some of them being too tight be the problem?

YES...

too tight = valve opening at wrong time = air going places when it shouldn't be = backfire.

did you degree the cam? i'm living a similar problem, think I installed my cam retarded, not making power till way up in the rpms and the numbers are real low. just ordered a proform cam degreeing kit (heads on) from jegs, $101 shipping and all.

Fixed the problem. You're all gonna laugh but the #2 and #4 wires were crossed. I'm sure we've all made this mistake at least once...lol. Needless to say it runs and sounds absolutly awesome. Gotta do a few other things tomorrow and i'll probably take it out for a test drive.

lol, good luck w/ it man, don't let your grin get too big, you'll cut the top half of your head off.

I hate to admit it, but I did a similar thing, installed a new motor in my wife's blaze, found out the 4.3 will run on three cylinders.
