Ill definately be talking to brett when this goes down. he is one of the few people that I would trust 100% with my plans.
What all do you have planned in the future?

Thats cool....!
One other question for you guys, there alot of 383s and such running around but I dont know if Ive ever seen a 400cu LT1. It would be cool to be different but how much would be different to do this set up instead of a 383 both internally and money wise.

A 400+ CID LT1? Internally you use a 4" stroke with a custom rod and piston. You also have to clearance the block quite a bit more. Budget wise it's stupid expensive.
Mahle pistons are cool since they come with a phosphor (sp?) coating. Real nice pieces, but they ain't cheap (what is?). As far as your Callies/Lunati/JE setup, you're probably looking in the neighborhood of $2200 or so.
How is Bret's tuned intake coming along? Anyone sneak into Area 51 and get a few snap shots yet? I need some to go with my stolen alien pics.

Rich- Im looking to have the budget for the second set up that you mentioned callies, lunati rods and JE pistons, maybe oliver . I figure its worth the extra money to do it right the first time. what do you figure a average price range for this particular rotating assembly would possibly end up being. Granted the Heads and cam will make the difference, Im hopeing to be able to get some AFRs(hopefully).
Vince I know ill be coming to you for the dyno tune etc.
Thanks,

It should be done soon so Im sure Bret and or Kmook will do the unveiling.
The 400+ builds aren't common but they can make good power. Problem is, you need even better head$ to get there. Every time you bump the displacement up, figure more work and money to go to the heads and intake. Otherwise you are going to be stuck with an engine that makes very similar horsepower (maybe a bit more torque) as it's small siblings. Same goes for 383 vs 350 builds.

I figure on haveing around 5000 or 5500 to put into this when the time comes. I would have liked to do the 400 just to be different. How much more do you think this would add to the total bill? Were probably gonna to do the assembly ourselves, so that will save us some money there, and ill be talking to brett about all of the other stuff. Ive got the hookup for all the parts through one of our local race shop who are extremely reputable and will give me around a 30% - 35% discount on all the parts. I think Im pretty set on the callies,Oliver,JE set up and if I have enough maybe AFR220s, if not perhaps AI induction Full port race heads. I dont know what cam yet, ill talk too brett for that. I also figure on getting another block for this build so i can keep an engine in the car or just have a back up incase something happens down the road.
looking at Callies Dragonslayer, oliver rods, JE pro forged pistons, custom cam(brett is god) AFR 220s. Upgraded fuel system, 250 N20( dual stage maybe).
Thanks guys, this is a really big help

I went into my 383 build thinking 5000 was enough..... boy was I wrong....
I spent about 1800 on parts for the rotating assembly about 1000 on machining (bore/clearance/balance/magnaflux, some other little stuff. 200 on a cam thats $3000 and another 2000$ on ported lt-4 heads/ intake. thats $5000. 850 on a Yank 3500 stall 200 on injectors a full gasket set. rockers were 250, pushrods 40, tons of other things i cant remember. probibly 200-300 in hardware, and thats not to mention tuning tools or chemicals like thredlocker / sealant...... and if i did it again I'd get a better rotating assembly...

Thats why Im thankfull that I luck out on who I kn0w and am really good friends with. Im be getting around 30% off on all parts and components and free machineing, balancing etc, because my buddy who works at our local race shop is allowed to use the machinery for their projects as long as it is off hours. So were just calling my engine his engine for his bosses sake. lol

Alright I think Ive finally decided on the 383 build up this winter.
Callies dragonSlayer-Oliver rods- JE proforged pistons
Custom Cam through Bret, AFR 220s, Crane Gold 1.6 RRs, Comp Dual springs. Lunati Pro series push rods, NX 250 shot.
To vince with the tune, ALL ARP bolts and studs. Larger Injectors size N/A. I know Im leaving a few things out I havnt decided on those yet.
If you guys have any other suggestions let me know what you think or what your opinions are.
Thanks for all the help guys,
-john

Time for BBC race engine. EZ street baby!! Thats my future. If your interested let me know and I can give you a parts list and start working something out. BTW 450rwhp straight motor on pump gas shouldn't be a stretch for that engine. 416 931 3203
Vince
P.S. of course it would freshened and dyno'd included

He hasn't grown out of that "I need creature comforts in my racecar" phase. We'll talk some sense into him soon enough though.
Don't let them tell you it can't be done.
96 Trans AM 383 ported stock castings....
457RWHP 433RWTQ
corrected 449 RWHP 422RWTQ
took me 12 months of saving every penny I could, working over 80 hours a week(sometimes, and carefully planning and over looking every part I put in it. Research is your best friend.
$$$$$$ wise. I had $2500 in a cam swap. so I didn't have to buy anymore bolt on cause I had them all. I still spent $8348.58 on the 383 build. Its alot of money. But alot of fun and its also for sell
