Possible exhaust leak?

I got a ticking sound coming from the drivers side, at first I thought it might have been a lifter going bad, but I think it might be an exhaust leak. After driving it for a while it is almost nonexistent.Does this sound like an exhaust leak?

Yes. Sounds like an exhaust leak. Does it get louder as you accelerate more?

Look for soot marks around the header flange and the collectors.

You can also test for leaks with a spray bottle of water. Start the engine up and spray the exhaust pipes. The heat of the pipes will turn the water mist to steam and if there are any leaks you'll see it puff the steam away.

This is even easier than using a stethoscope, another way I used to check.

Hope this helps,
Christian

I don't think you can get to them from on top.

I think it depends on which bolts, as to wether they can be had from the top. I had a passenger side leak, and had to get the back two from underneath, but on my car I could have sworn I got all drivers side bolt tightened from the top. You'll need a variety of sockets and extensions, the outer corner bolts can be had with a normal socket with and without a 3" extension. The inner bolts require a deep socket and may or may not need an extension.

the driver's side can be removed from the top. The passenger side can mostly be removed from the top except for the bolts mentioned.
