Porting Heads is it worth it??

I wanted to know is it worth the money to port your heads. I have a 94 camaro with all the bolt ons and the lt4 hot cam with 1:6 rockers. I was thinking about having my heads ported by lloyed edwards. I think thats his name. He said I can get a add. 40 rwhp. Do you think if I get these ported I will give a brand new 04 cobra a run. I have 4:10 gears, headers, and all the bolt ons avl.

First of all, you should be able to smoke that Cobra right now. The power is all at the heads so yes porting is very much worth it and becomes essential at certain levels. If you have a hot cam you’ve reached that level.

re:

You really think I can smoke a supercharged 04 cobra right now. with my mods on my m6 lt1
410 gears
k&n air filter kit
grantenili maf
march pulleys
lt4 km
lt4 hot cam
1:6 rockers
shorty headers
off road pipe
loudmouth exhuast
trick flow elbow
pcm tuned
58 holley throttle

- those are all my mods. Supercharged cobras run 12.5 1/4 stock. All 04 cobras are supercharged. I beat a 92 or 93 vette. very very very badly last week. I made him look like he had a 4 cyl. in that car. Well anyways I wanted to keep this set-up. I know I can make more power with a different cam and all. But this is the set-up I want to work with. I have too much money invested in my car as it is. But yeah any more suggestions on what could give me more power. The heads ported. With my current set-up do you really think I will give a 04 cobra a good run

Have you raced an 04 cobra? I raced one at the track when i was almost stock and I had him through 2nd gear and then he walked away pretty good in 3rd, but I would think those mods would make it pretty close...but im sure with your mods porting the heads would make a pretty good difference.

Who the heck is Lloyd Edwards??

Yes it's very worth it. Check out Lloyd Elliot, or Phil Odom @ www.advancedinduction.com . You can see the results on Phils page.

I'll be the lone dissenter here...an 04 Cobra, driven by someone who can drive the car, will smoke you. You simply do not make enough power with the mods you listed, especially on stock heads. Around here the 03 Cobras were dipping into the high 11's, and were pretty much stock.

LE ported heads added to the equation....now that's a whole new ballgame.

At the track may be one story but you will not beat a 03 or 04 Cobra on the street the way your car sits now. Even with heads it will be a close run.

Re:

I know that my odds are not that great on beating a 03-04 cobra. But if I ever get the chance. When the light turns green. I'm redlining it. I raced a 93 vette last week. Pulled 6 car lengths on him in second gear. I think I'm ready. I cannot let the bowtie family down.

A 93 Vette and 03 Cobra are 2 different animals. The old Vettes are slow as ****. I can beat C5's with no problem but no way could my car pull on a 03 Cobra or Z06 which is even faster than the Cobra.

I agree.

Don't really keep up with the Ford stuff that much but I did see an 04' Cobra put ~400 hp to the rear wheels with a smaller pulley and some tuning. Car runs high 11's on DR's, from what I've been told. Not too shabby at all but hey, it's supercharged.

Spend your money getting the car hooked up. Cut low 60' times and you might stand a chance cause those cars are going to be tough for an inexperienced driver to hook from a start.

90% of racing is about driver skill.

hell yeah heads are worth it. Llyods heads kick *** too.
and im sorry but a hot cam bolt on LT1 is not going to beat a 04 cobra.
Just make sure you get the heads done right and dyno tune it afterward. It'll probably be a good 2000 dollars in porting and tuning and parts. And u doing the labor yourself.
