porting heads question

Should i port aftermarket heads? Or would porting my stock heads be ok? How much would a mild port job cost? Im fairly new to this so any details you can give me would be great.

I have posted numerous times before I have heard from several sources that Lloyd blatently lies about his flow numbers. He caters to people who want the internet race the CFM of their heads for the cheapest price possible. Think about it, seldom will you find the best product at the cheapest price, it just doesn't usually work that way. I have seen pics of his work and to me it looks downright amatuer.

It's obvious your information is based solely on hear-say...I've been to Elliott Portworks and have seen him at work...I've seen him flow a set of stock LT1 heads and then flow a set of ported LT1 heads...

Where the hell did you get that information from?!

Think before you speak...

I recieved a lot of that info from other respected board members (I won't mention their names) and what I said only reflects my opinion of his work, you can think whatever you want about his products. I am just trying to inform a fellow consumer of what I have heard.

hear-say is exactly that...hear-say...I live an hour from Red Oak, Texas where Lloyd has his shop and I can vouch for his flow #'s...all of you sheep believe what you want...

I just find it somewhat suspicious that he can consitantly get flow numbers in the low to mid 280's yet only spend enough time on them to charge ~$1300. It does not add up to me. He is either selling his labor VERY cheaply or not spending that much time on the heads.

its sad to think that people still think the main reason for doing things is $$$$$$

i just started researching this guy because i am almost ready to get my heads done. i have heard NOTHING but good things about lloyd and his numbers prove it!

thats a shame that you think that. the guy obviously loves what he does, considering he is willing to help out fellow members. he seems to stay busy because i see tons of people on the board that have either gone to him, or will in the future. i could only image what kind of profit he makes even charging $1000!! the guys good at what he does, who are you to criticize his work because of his low prices?!?

I've heard only good testimonies about Lloyd.

Back to the point of this thread... It depends on your application. For most NA applications, a set of tuned heads that match your cam specs should be fine. For blown applications, depending on boost you may want an aftermarket set with thicker decks.

Porting heads isn't all about max CFM, it's primarily about port velocity and low lift flow numbers, unless you are in a race car at WOT most of the time.

I have also heard great things about Lloyd. Many guys here run his heads with excellent results at a very good price. Nowhere are you going to find this sort of value. I am seriously considering sending my heads to Lloyd. Consistently he delivers good heads. Flow numbers max in the 270s on his ported stock castings from what I've seen. That is more than enough flow to put down over 400rwhp with the right combo. Peak numbers are just that, peak numbers. 250-260 cfm is plenty to put down a lot of power with the right setup. Lloyd is well respected around this board and by his customers.

Anyways he is one of many options. I also suggest Advanced Induction as an alternative and most likely I will be giving Phil Odom (Skarodom) a call next year. AI's work is slightly more expensive but still a good value.

I too had good experience with Lloyd. If he is a liar at least he's a conscientious one as he answers any questions with elaborate fibs and sends nice photoshop altered pics of his work. Also he offers you some good, deceptive advice regarding what you want out of the heads (ie max untrue flow or a wide fake power band). Then he sends you a nifty chart o' falsehood with your flow numbers. I had my lt4 heads ported by him and the seat of my pants don't lie!
