Porting for a 58 mm throttle body

Hey guys,

When the LT1 intake is ported for the 58 mm throttle body, can you just remove that divider between the 2 48mm holes and grind it smooth? I guess kinda of like your going to use a monoblade?

Has anyone done this?

Thanks,
Ed

I wouldn't. Theres no point. It won't give you any more air flow. All it will do is make the intake weaker. Just port the holes to 58mm.

I don't see how it will make the intake weaker, no way. It's already boxed around that area anyway.

Ok then, go ahead if you want. If it were me, I wouldn't do it, that's all. Who knows if it makes it weaker or not, but why risk it. I don't see what you would be tryin to achieve by doing it. The size of the air path is only going to be as big as the smallest point anyway, which is going to be the 58mm TB. It's still going to be a 58mm opening no matter how much more material you remove from the intake. The only thing it can possibly do is POSSIBLY make it weaker. I just don't see why you would risk it based on the amount of material you see around the intake. Don't judge its structural integrity by what you see. Just my 2 cents.

I don't think it will add any gain and I think you will remove the idle air passage in this process, not a bigy if you don't care about idle quality.

Re: Porting for a 58 mm throttle body

Removing 'web' between bores would not result in a strength issue. As noted above, it WILL result in the loss of the entrance for the IAC circuit. Do not know of any aftermarket TB that has retained, or designed in, the IAC circuit. As such, do not know of any aftermarket TB designed for use on the LTx engine of ours. The need for this IAC mod to the TB, is the main complaint (AFAIC) of aftermarket TBs. Without a functioning IAC circuit, expect split BLM bank to bank. If this issue is of no concern to you, then removal of the web is a mute point.
