I've used two tuners over the years; both didn't like ported MAFs.

the screen is there to smooth out air flow before it hits the maf sensor so it will give the most accurate reading possible, even at wot

Probably best to ignore info from anyone you see advocating porting the MAF. Yes a good tuner given TIME and effort can retune for a ported MAF but in the end there is no gain. Think Ed Wright only found single digits deleteing the MAF on his 500+rwhp car and that was 500+ through a 8" ATI and 4L60E. Which basically means 99.5% of us here will never have an engine moving enough air to exceed the stock MAFs useful capacity.

I removed my screen, ground out the center dividers, and even trimmed the excess plastic in there. That was 6 years ago, my car runs fantastic and always has.

Yup, well put 96capricemgr. In the end, everyone can make their own choices. Of course there is gonna be people who do it, and have good results with it. BUT, you need to understand how the MAF sensor works, how to recalibrate it, and most people siimple lack the knowledge to do it correctly. If it works to descreen it for you, great. I see more posts with people getting a crappy running motor and throwing codes than people not having a problem. Just what I have seen in my time here on the board. I would think 96capricemgr has seen alot more than me even!
If you want to do it, be prepared to take a college level class on the theory behind it to build your own tables. If not, even at my power level, the screened MAF Sensor is NOT a restriction.
