ported exhaust manifolds and other ?s

I have a 95 formula with 31,000 miles. I want to keep this thing looking stock for various reasons, but I also want it quicker. I know years ago SLP sold ported exhaust manifolds. Does anyone have any experience with them, and or ported your own? Second who has expeience with aftermarket y-pipes for the stock manifolds? The Borla looks nice, but the stainless aspect defeats my desire to keep it looking stock. Last, what cat backs have been used with stock exhaust tips?

thanks,
jim

The whole time you are taking this stuff apart to only put it back together the way it was, you will be thinking.. what the hell am I doing wasting my time... I shoulda ordered _________ (fill in blank with header of preference).

Year One once sold LT4 manifolds which the claimed had some gain of ~10hp or so for ~350 bucks. If you ask me though, they and any other ported exhaust manifold are a waste when you can pick up MAC's and a nice Y-pipe for ~$450.

If I were you I'd definately go headers.

buy headers. there's plenty of emissions legal headers out there. It's worth the cost.

I'll check into the lt4 manifolds. I am very aware that headers will make more power than ported manifolds and aftermarket y-pipe. I want this thing to look stock and run like stink, so the manifolds have to stay, and be made to perform as best as possible.

I think the SLP manifolds you refer to were 'extrude honed' [not something you can do at home..] a rather expensive process...
Also, don't be put off by the SLP or Borla 'Y pipe' being stainless, since it really isn't any different looking than regular exhaust pipe[ except less rust]
They are generally a low grade[409?] stainless and don't 'shine'....

I have a pic of an SLP Ypipe I can email you if you want to see what I mean..

IMO you can save your time and money and leave them alone if your so worried about keeping them stock.

The whole process your thinking of really is just a waste of time.

Someone talk sense into this man...!!!

Guy your car is not going to run fast with modded manifolds.

The only way to keep your cars engine bay, looking and sounding stock is to run a lingefelter cam, port your heads, use modded manifolds, have a G2 air box. So thats about 3500 dollars in work if u do it yourself and some kid with a morosso CAI, 500 dollar long tubes and 200 dollar cat back exhaust will make the same power as you.

Manifolds are a pain to install and for only 10 horses? You wont even feel it.

I agree. The Formula is my second 4th gen. I sold my 94 z28 in 2000. The car ran mid 12's, and yes it had headers along with other things. I have done that. I am looking at taking a different approach with this car. It is a damn near prestine 95 Formula and I want it to stay looking that way even if it is more difficult to make it run fast.

Mtrhds94Z:
thanks, I just assumed the borla or slp would be to shiny.
