Port and Polish LT1 Heads

i have a quick question..i was intrested in getting my stock LT1 heads port and polished.....my question is....what is a valve job? and is it necessary? i mean i want to keep the stock valves...so i do i need a valve job?

and if i port and polish the heads...the header gaskets should work? i mean the holes will match up and all right? i wont have to get new gaskets for the headers?

A valve job is only necessary when you want to go with larger size valves, so NO you don't need a valve job. Yes, all the ports will line up on your heads and gaskets.

Just make sure your port job includes pocket work. I.e, smooth and radius under the valves. You might save some money without the polishing too. Really don't know how much gain there is to polishing. JMHO
