Port-matching the intake manifold?
Port-matching the intake manifold?
After seeing how small the runners on the intake manifold are compared to the heads runners, is there any HP gain from port-matching the intake manifold? Also, are there any directions that I could follow to port my intake manifold?
Re: Port-matching the intake manifold?
of course it would help if you port match the intake just be careful not to scar up the inside and make sure that you keep the edges straight and try to keep the inside of the runners smooth
Re: Port-matching the intake manifold?
I think what he is talking about is port matching the intake to the heads. Yes, if there is an overhang, if you clean it up then there is something to be gained there. You should always blend it into the head (or the intake, whichever way you have to go) at least a 1/2 inch.
Be careful blending too far in on the pushrod side of the intake port in the head. It's really thin there.. Of course, you shouldn't be near this area unless you just plain have the wrong intake manifold on the motor.

PS: Oh yea, and please don't grind on the heads with them still on the engine. All that aluminum dust won't make your internals very happy.

Re: Port-matching the intake manifold?
The heads are already fully ported, they match the gasket perfect, I'm talking about port-matching the intake manifold runners to the gasket so they line up to the head.
