popping out of reverse

how common is it for the T-56 to pop out of reverse as you start to let out the clutch? It feels like it never full engages, but if i lean on the shifter it will stay in reverse. It sounds like a lot of people have problems with this. Also, how much was it to get fixed? I am gonna tolerate it until winter then take it to a tranny shop, and i am curious to see what i can expect for a price. Other than this little reverse problem, is the rest of tranny pretty strong?

thanks guys

i had similar things like that happen in my dads toyota truck,

a mechanic said i had some bad forks or something, but anyway a quick fix for my situation was a new clutch, and i didnt see the problems any more, its been probably 1.5 years since i did that and its still goin strong, sometimes u can feel the problem but thats when its cold but it never really acts up

Mine does it. I either have hold it in reverse real hard, or what for it to 'pop' into gear, then it stays. A new clutch didn;t help me at all. I have heard it might be the syncros

the same thing happened when i had my Z. I heard if you change the tranny fluid it may help, otherwise you're gonna need new synchros.

My car has been popping out of reverse for over 2 years now, I cant even hold the shifter in reverse to prevent it from popping out, its coming out reverse no matter what. Syncro problem.... was told reverse doesnt have a syncro, oh well dont know. Researched problem while back and was told a roll pin was possibly backing out in transmission causing problem. Hopefully someone has a better answer than me.

When i put it back into reverse, it grinds a little bit, does your car do that to? You said u have lived withit for 2 yrs, i wonder how much damage it does? Hmmm....oh well, i am still gonna get it overhauled , i plan on tearing the whole car apart and dropping the tranny anyways, so it isn't going to be much extra work to take it to this tranny place i know. It would be great if someone could shoot me a rough price. I am either gonna overhaul the whole tranny, but if it doesnt need it, just replace what has to get done to stop it from popping out of reverse.
