Popping noise while coasting
Popping noise while coasting
Just wondering if this is somethin to be concerned about?
I think it only happens when its cold out. While accelerating (in a slightly spirited manner) from one stoplight to another, I'll push in the clutch in when I get to say 45 or whatever the speed limit is and take the tranny out of gear (6spd) and just let it coast for the 100 yards or so to the next traffic light. When I do this though I started noticing some kind of "popping" noise and the RPMs sit at 1600 or so and not "idle".
Its like the popping noise when I'm accelerating when the engine is cold and its relatively cold out.
I have a cut out and its always open so I'm sure thats whats causing the actual noise itself. Just wondering if theres anything wrong with the engine and if this is a bad driving technique.

nothing wrong, it's your timing and mixture.....people who drive carbed cars have this happen constantly because they can't actively advance their timing when decelerating and change the mixture. There's been lots of inventions to change how it sounds on modern cars, mostly fuel injection and timing controllers....yours just isn't perfectly adjusted
yes a tune will help out, between the stock rich tune and your timing, there should be a bit of a difference but with a cutout open there isnt much back pressure so youre most likely still going to have some "popping"
If your cutout is open and seeing that you have a gutted cat in your sig, you basically have a car with no cat and a bypassed muffler. Your car will definitely be making alot more snaps, crackle, and pops when you are driving. I would consider it normal.
Yea the cutout plate is not on there right now, so its always open.
Now i'm burning oil
Dont know why
I decided to stomp on it today and take it up to 5 grand for 3 hard shifts.
Then I was cruising. Temp was normal, around 170ish. Pull it the parking lot of my aparment complex, back up into a spot...glance down...and its up to 210
Not that high, but if i were to leave it with the A/C off (fans not going) itll climb up to 235+
I also noticed some white smoke...dont think its a head gasket, as my coolant level hasn't dropped at all, but I find myself putting in about 1/2 a quart of oil a month...hmmm
It always starts to smoke above 205*...weird, drives real strong though.
