Polishing Piston Tops

I have a set of forged pistons comming for my next build up. I want to polish the piston tops and was wondering what the best methods are?

Re: Polishing Piston Tops

You don't want to polish them... at the most you want to radius the hard edges on the top around the valve reliefs and dish or dome. I usually glass bead them when I am done doing all of that.

Re: Polishing Piston Tops

Wouldnt a polished piston top have the same effect as polished chambers? I would think the carbon resistance would be a good thing.

Re: Polishing Piston Tops

Not really... carbon will build up on anything. Nobody really does that to chambers anymore either.

Listen to his advice about glass beading.

Re: Polishing Piston Tops

BTW make sure you tape off the ringlands and the rest of the piston so that's not glass beaded
