plug in?

in my 94 z28 (canadian), there is a plug that looks like its for 120 volt ac current. what would be the purpose in plugging my car up to my house?

It is most likely a block heater. They are used to warm up coolant to help the car warm up quicker. They are used a lot in colder climates.
