Please tell me what is wrong with my car!
I've searched the forums and have found out that alot of people have the same problem as me, but I haven't found a definite cause or fix for the problem. My car is a 96 T/A with an A4. Only in overdrive or 4th gear my car has absolutly no throttle response. It's at about 40-45 mph. The rpms sit at about 1k- 2k. If I press on the gas it feels like my car wants to die until I press down far enough for it to shift down into third. Then it runs perfect. All the previous posts that I've read don't say exactly how they fixed the problem because they replaced so many parts in the process. I recently replaced the plugs, wires, and O2 sensors about 2 weeks ago. This was the second time within a year. Still hasn't helped at all. Please will someone tell me how to fix this problem. It's driving me crazy!
Re: Please tell me what is wrong with my car!
Well it would seem logical that if the engine runs fine in other gears, the problem should be somewhere in the tranny. Not only can the engine be scanned but the tranny can as well. The first question I have is how soon after you put the ShiftPlus in, did the problem occur???? The last question is, do you have a knowledgable AAMCO near by? they can scan it during operation on the road to see just what it's doing.
BTW, put your screen back in the MAF. It'll run better.

Re: Please tell me what is wrong with my car!
I put the shiftplus in about a year ago, but I barely ever use it. So I don't think that causeed it. I know alot of people with Lt1s that drive with their shiftplus on all day without problems. I'm not sure if I have an AAMCO nearby. Would they scan it for free or how much will it cost me? Also, I wish that I still had my screen for my MAF. Anyone got a spare laying around anywhere?
Re: Please tell me what is wrong with my car!
i had almost the same prob. i would say for you to start with the cheap stuff first. replace the plugs and wires and then ig that doesnt fix it replace the coil and the icm. and if that doesnt fix it time for a new opti cap and rotor. i replaced the opti first and then the icm and then the coil and then the plugs and then the wires and to find out it was my wires in the first place but the msd set i replaced them with were bad too. so i spent 4 months and over 1200 bucks looking for the problem when it should have only costed me around 50 bucks for some good accell wires
Re: Please tell me what is wrong with my car!
I did my plugs and wires about a year ago and repaced the wires with the stock Ac Delco. When I did the plugs and wires again 2 weeks ago I went to the MSD wire set, but I still have the same problem.

Could be the wires, but my car did the exact same thing with new Delco wires. Had the exact same problem before I put the MSD wires on. I would rather not buy another set of wires and install them just to see the problem hasn't gone away. I've already done that twice. I just think that it's kind of strange that the car runs perfect after it has sit all night. When I drive first thing in the morning there's no problem at all. That's after sitting for about 9 hours. If I drive it all day and let it sit and cool for what 4-5 hours, the problem remains. I just doesn't do it in the morning.
