Please help-one fustrated guy in here!

OK, I had this problem for 2 years now and I'm ready to get rid of it. Last year it gad a pretty good stumble off idle, and a good miss above 5000rpm. It got much worse as the summer went on, then an SES light and i stopped driving it when it stumbled/bucked/hesitated all the time. This spring I did new plugs, wires, coil and it drove great for a few hundred miles, then it started running crappy again. I find it runs "alright" until it warms up, then it sounds like it has a cam in it, back fires, erratic idle, stumbles...ect...It seems to be running way rich, there was a good little puddle behind the tail pipes after about 5 minutes of idle in my garage today. I don't have any way to scan it, and I would hate to just keep throwing parts at it.
Any help/ideas/info would be appreciated--- Thanks-Rob

In my old '94 Z/28, the water pump was leaking alittle bit on the opti after it warmed up. It took me a LONG time to identify my ignition problem was the water pump. Just a possiblity. Look seriously under the water pump for any signs.

Do you have an advance auto parts or autozone neer you? The usually will scan your computer for free. If you have a high or low resolution code it is opti related. Like 3DFORMULA said, its possible that you could have a coolent leak. It could also be the moduel between the coil and the cylender head. Once it heads up from the head of the engine it could be causeing issues. But you really need to scan the ECM and find out what code its throwing so you dont just start throwing parts at it hopeing it fixes the problem. Hope you get it figured out.

My advance auto can scan just about any ECM, including OBD2. But its possible that his car could still be OBD1. Its worth a shot either way.

I was under the impression that some 95s were OBD2 also. Im probably wrong though.

95's are OBD1's but some actually have an OBD2 style connector. Autozone can scan OBD1 or OBD2.

that makes alot more sence. I have a 95 parts car that has the OBD2 plug but no harness. Thats why I thought it was an OBD2 car.

thanks for the replies. I haven't had too much time to look at the car lately, but I might just go buy a new opti. Does this seem like it might solve my issue? Thanks---Rob

Get it scanned FIRST! There is no reason to pay $150-$500 for an opti if your problem is the ICM or coil. Get it scanned. You will be much happier in the end. Especially if you dont need to buy and opti.

I've never seen a 95 that didn't have the OBD-II ALDL connector.

What AutoZone can and will do varies from store to store. Many people have been turned down when they bring in an OBD-I car. Many 95 owners have found that some AutoZone stores do not understand that they are even trying to scan an OBD-I car when they scan a 95.
