Please Help My Lt1!!!!
Please Help My Lt1!!!!
Hey, I have a 1995 z28 and for the past 3 or 4 months every time i drive any more than 5 miles my engine coolant light comes on and my engine temp. goes way up pretty quickly and i eventually have to turn the heat on full blast just to keep the engine temp. down (and i live in Miami so heat on high is horrible in this weather). I know i'm not low on coolant because i just got it flushed and refilled about one month ago. I've taken the thing to 3 different mechanics all of which claim "they fixed it". But, obviously, none of them have fixed it at all. Can anyone provide me with any suggestions at all as to what is wrong with it????? I'm obviously an amateur when it comes to dealing with engines, but any information or suggestions at all will be much appreciated. Thanks alot....

I have a 160 degr4ee thermostat and used to have the hypertech power programmer. When the custom tuning was in the PCM tempertures were perfect. One time I put the GM tuning back in for service and forgot to remove it and it ran hot as hell, near boiling.
Are you maybe doing somthing similar?

Don't take this as a smart a$$ question, but do you hear the fans turning on? I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a bad control board for the fans. The engine was reaching the temp to turn on the fans, but they never got turned on. Had to do the same thing..pull over and wait.
Re: Please Help My Lt1!!!!
have you checked the fluid level in both the radiator and the resevoir?
also if it comes close to overheating and you're not sure the fans are on. it's actually better to turn the AC on, because that will turn on the fans instantly.

yes, i had the problem about a month before i got the coolant flushed, and it made it very difficult for the coolant to be flushed and refilled, it took a really long time. They suggested that i get a new thermostat, which i did, but problems still persisted

Re: Please Help My Lt1!!!!
There may be air in the system.
If you have the small brass valve on the hose coming from the cap area you can relieve the air pockets.
Get a Haynes manual or talk to a GM mechanic about this.
It's a dumb system but if there is ANY air pockets in the coolant system the car can run really hot.
Also make sure the overflow is filled and get a new radiator cap.

Your radiator is probably not flowing like it should, pull your cooling fans while it is hot and feel the radiator, when I did this on mine half the radiator was cold when the temp was about 200. You might need a new radiator
