please help with a final cam decision
please help with a final cam decision
well i need some help making a choice. im having loyd port a set of heads for me. but my problem is that i dont know what vam to get. i like the 847 but it seems that you have to spin it pretty high, and that what i dont want to do. i want a cam that wouldpeak at 6300 or so but no more that 6500. but i want the alot of lope, do i was think mabye get the ex236/242 on a 110, i know the ex grinds peak earlier than say the 306, but maybe the 110 will put the peak HP up there a little higher around 64 or 6500.
honestly i want to make all the hp i can, but i want the lope and im willing to sacrifice a few hp for the sound. i would like to hit the 400 mark.
i know ive ask alot of cam questions, and i cant promise the this will be last, but thanks for the help in advance. i just dont want to sin the stock bottom end that high.
but if you have an idea of a good cam to meet my goals, let me know which one and why.
note: i have a 306 right now on my table, and i can send it back and get it on a 110
thaks agian

That 306 will definately give you some sound. I think it peaks out a little sooner than you want though (I could be wrong). I was looking at Comp's NX276HR grind for my car. I know it's for a N2O or blower car, but it should work well with a NA car as well. It specs out to:
224/236 duration @ .50
.502/.520 inch lift @ .50 w/1.5 rockers
.535/.555 inch lift @ .50 w/1.6 rockers
on a 113 lobe sep (I was going to have it ground to 114)
Supposedly good from 2000-6000 RPM so it should rev to 6300 and still be pulling hard.
Good luck.

I still like the 847... The lift is nice compared to the cc306. Look at Atljar videos... That's all I need to see haha that thing sounded SOOOOO SICK on the dyno. For you non-Californians, that means GOOD!
First of all, you should have had Phil (SkarodoM) port your heads for you.
Secondly, if you're getting some nice heads (no idea who lloyd is), you're going to be kicking yourself later if you don't get enough cam.
I'd go with a CC306 MINIMUM if I had some really nice heads that flowed a crapload of CFM with awesome port velocity.
Unlike an automatic with a huge stall, with a 6-speed, your driveability won't be sacraficed no matter which cam you go with.

well loyd is known on the board as nightrain66. and he turns out great heads.
but anyway on the cam i have the opinion as you 306 at a minum . but i sure am leaning toward the 847 on a 110
the CR will end up at 11.25 or 11.5 the car has the stock t56 (soon to be rebuilt) and stock rearend for now. hope to get a 12 next summer . it is my daily driver and will not see much track time at all till spring. but when the cam and things go in i do have a honda to drive back and forth to work.
I think the 847 is not a bad choice for you, but you will need the right supporting parts (pushrods, rockers, springs) and might be happier with it with 4.10's than with stock 3.42's. May not make enough vacuum for the brakes to work right in traffic though.

Man, what page is that at the bottom of?
That's the age old way to select a cam, go to the bottom of the page and then find one that's even bigger.
Anyone know how much valve overlap that thing has on the 112 grind? Or better yet, a 114 grind?
