You can just hollow out your cat and leave it on. I have shorty headers and love em. Just dont get BBK's though, spark plug changes will be harder then with stock manifolds! I think longtubes and shortys will give you the same power unless you are heavily modded then longtubes would be better. I have a SLP Loudmouth cat-back and it sounds great! Verry loud but not to bad. It rumbles my house @ idle when its in the driveway. I would NEVER change it!

Ive run Hooker LTs, Pacesetter LTs (LS1 & LT1), Edelbrock shorties, and MAC mids. Ive also run LS1 True Duals, Hooker Cat back, LT1 true duals, SLP loumouth (LT1), LT1 cutout, LS1 cutout... I know a few things about exhaust on F-bodies.

On headers:
DO NOT BUY SHORTIES. Once you go LT you dont go back. I really liked the MACs though. They are good headers w/ good plug access compared to shorties/stock. Hookers are expensive and have some ground issues, as well as tough install. My advise would be MAC Mids or Pacesetter LTs.

If you want the loudest exhaust, then I would go true dual. Texas Speed and performance (www.texas-speed.com) has a bolt up system to pacesetter LTs.

You could also get MACs and run their rumbler system. It is better quality than the loudmouth.

Just mt $.02

HEy thanks guys, I have a few more questions. Does someone make a pipe that does not have cats on it say from the headers back?
Or is hollowingout the cats the better cheaper wasy to go?
I am looking for a system what does not have cats, but I want a complete system not from the cats back I want to get rid of them or if hollowing them ou is just as good so be it. what do you think?

Almost every company that offers y-pipes has offroad y-pipes, which elimate the cats. You can also go to a local exhaust shop and have them weld-in a Off-road pipe to elimate the cat, provided you can find one that will look the other way.

No. The Y-pipe is slightly restrictive. Most people will tell you (and rightly so) that it's the total package that matters, not just one part. If you want the most power and a lot of noise, longtube headers and true duals (with or without x-pipe/h-pipe) are the best option. Longtubes really are the best option on a street vehicle, and a true dual exhaust will eliminate all of the factory crimped bends. There are bolt-on kits or DIYers if you're willing to get dirty. Also, hollowing out the cats usually gives the exhaust a raspy sound that most people don't like.

If you don't have emmissions restrictions in you state...go with long tubes.

They make offroad y-pipes (cats removed) as well if you want to go shorties. Without cats, you'll need O2 sims. But offroad y-pipes are usually emmissions restricted as well. So if you're going to say the hell with emmission, go the whole way and get LTs.

I have SLP Shorties, Stainless Works off road pipe from summit and a Borla cat-back. I love the sound and it was all easy to bolt up in you driveway, or apartment parking garage in my case.

Please foregive me by Lt's do you mean long tube headers?

Also how hard are long tube headers to install and make fit vs. shorties?
