Please Help! Changing Starter!

Please Help! Changing Starter!
Hello Everyone . I did a search, but can't seem to find what I'm looking
for. I'm in the process of changing my starter. I see now one of the
advantages of having a 6 speed car! The transmission coolant lines aren't
in the way! My exhaust bolts are frozen on, I can't budge them. The
starter is un-bolted and the wires off. BUT how do I get the starter out???
Do I have to drop the exhaust??? or move the coolant lines???
Thanks everyone! Bill

Re: Please Help! Changing Starter!
Im assuming your car has stock manifolds and y-pipe on it. The starter will come out with everything hookup up, it just takes some working. Its been a while since Ive messed with stock manifolds but Im pretty sure you tilt the front(side without the gear) up and bring the rear out, straight down. Make sure youve unhooked the wires first of course. Again, its been a while but I think thats how I remember doing it......4 years ago

Re: Please Help! Changing Starter!
That's how I got mine out... Flipping the starter around so the gear is pointing up... I also removed one of the transmission line brackets that's near the motor mount.. That way you can move the lines a little more so you can slip the starter past them.

Re: Please Help! Changing Starter!
....Woops, well the only reason I'm even going to admit my STUPID
mistake is because it just might help someone elso someday. I
forgot to take the cover off of the torque converter! That's why it
wouldn't come out. After I bend the heck out of the transmission
cooler lines and got the old starter out I realized this. So I took the
cover off and put the new one back in {a '96 ZR1 grand sport one}.
It starts like a 'charm' now ....... Oh, and yes it has stock manifolds.
Thanks again, Bill
