Last night I was bored and decided to go practice going through the gears in my 94z. Well the car felt fine as I went from 1st to 2nd to 3rd, and at the top of third as I was just laying off the car threw an SES light and just shut off. I was shifting at ~ 5500 rpm. I tried to start it again and it would crank and maybe cough once like it was going to start, but it was a no go and left me stranded. Push starting it didn't work either.

Does anyone have any idea of what this could be? The only thing I noticed different after it broke was a *clunk clunk* or wirrrrrrr sound just after turning the key to the on position. But now its dead and won't start Anyone have this happen before? I did replace the water pump about 2 months ago but did not seem to have any sputtering problems that would point to a dying opti. The only thing I really noticed before hand was the fuel pump whining a little louder than usual.

Any help or ideas on this would be GREATLY appreciated

 

If it spit a code before it died pull the code.

 

Duh, good idea. I will try to get it read tomorrow if possible. But now that I think of it I think i did an idiot thing and reset the pcm in my attempts at trying everything to get it to start. *cringe*

 

If the code is related to what shut the engine down, it should reappear when you try and start it. The Opti would show up as DTC 16.

Then check the fuel pressure.
