since the cc502 and 503 put out similar numbers on stock heads, what if i went with the 503 and at a later date installed the edelbrock heads. would the extra 30 cfm make a big difference in power with the bigger cam over the smaller? or would it still be about the same?
For the cost of the Edel's, you can get your stockers p&p'd with some very nice valvetrain parts that'll knock the Edel's out of the park.
Considering that, either cam will shine with the improved heads, but the 503 will probably be better suited to take advantage of them. However, not as well as a custom grind.
For now, I'd flip a coin on either cam with stock heads. They both work great. When it comes time for the heads, get a cam appropriate for them.

yeah i just want to keep my stockers.picking a cam is not my thing. i know where i want my power,no loss of low range but boost in mid to high.i want 330 to 340hp at 6k. i do not want headers just stock manifolds. i think this is doable.
I'd recommend the 502 for the stock heads over the 503, simply because the 502 is proven to put out great power and powerband.
However, I must ask why you aren't going to be getting headers. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that 330-340 is going to be VERY wishful thinking without headers.

I agree. The manifolds are already strangling the stock set up. There's a reason people see some very noticeable gains when swapping in even the tiny Edelbrock headers. If you really do plan on keeping them, then don't get a cam. You're going to be very disappointed after all the time and money spent on the cam swap. The expected gains just won't be there.
just dont want to go through the headache of leaks and ses codes. i thought there was some people who have just done a cam swap putting down325. i figured with the heads to boot 330 to 340 would easily be reachable.
A properly installed set of headers will not leak and will not throw any codes.
The first major thing (second after the CAI) I did to my car was install the exhaust system. I had never done anything like that ever. I have yet to come up with a leak too. Just take your time, or take it to a shop that you trust.
Believe everyone when they say that people put in headers for a reason. All you'll be doing by running a cam on stock manifolds will be running a VERY choked up system.

i appreciate the responses. i had thought about the edel tes system but after hearing " they are so lousy no better than stock manifolds" i figured why bother. it seems the consensus is if you dont get longtubes you are wasting money. what are some other shorty headers other than edel? hooker i asked about and got the "longtubes" response i just talked about. dont want burned sparkplugs. i guess i will be the guinea pig on the edel heads.
Ummm......the fastest car at the GMHTP LT1 bolt on shootout was running Edlebrock TES headers.
There's plenty of headers out there. Edlebrock, Mac, Arizona Speed and Marine, RK Sport, SLP, Hooker, and others.

The consensus is definitely not "if you dont get longtubes you are wasting money".
I got 326 rwhp with midlength headers and my cam. If I didn't have an automatic, that number would be in the 340's.
