Upgrading to forged pistons is always a good idea if the budget allows. Do you plan on anything else other than H/C?

that's a no brainer. If you have the cash go forged. ESP if your going to be spraying.

If you have the cash Mahle forged pistons would be my choice, the other ideas are for if you are trying to save your pennies.

If the block does not need boring I might just inspect and reuse the stock pistons. Most inexpensive replacement pistons are going to be a step backwards in the ring pack and the stock motor will take 150 shot very reliably so long as the tune is right.

At that mileage though pistons might be worn and I might also consider just a low mileage b-body shortblock. Should be able to get one for $500 and it will cost a lot more than that to rebuild your's to comparable quality.

Hey Johnny
I'm in the same boat. I'll be going with forged pistons with a rebuild kit from summit. Trying to stay as low budget as I can. So I'm looking to reuse the stock rods. I won't buy anything till engine gets torn apart to see what's really needed. Like what was mentioned already about bore size. I'm still debating to try and tackle this myself or pay someone to do it. Since it's gonna be a very long winter up here.

Just to be clear, a b-body shortblock is the same, just less likely to have been abused and generally cheaper.
