Piston rings, what are we running here with strokers??
Just curious...
My pistons need 1/16 Top, 1/2 Second, 3/16 Oil and I am looking into what ring to get.
I bought a duramoly ring and have been told they are not to have problems with becoming brittle.

I'm building a 383 thats going to have a blower and I'm using Childs & Albert Zero gap ring set. The second ring is zero gap, Not the top because there are problems running zero gap top ring unless you have a low compression motor. They have a dura-moly plasma-moly top ring which is excellent for high heat. I think you can't go wrong with these but that's just my .02
Cantonracer,
Might want to check the AT forum on your topic. We've been over it a few times there and you'll get a good variety of opinion on the subject.
I use and have had very good luck with Speed Pro rings. For a performance street engine, I'd go with a plasma moly top ring, backcut 2nd and medium tension oil ring. I also buy file-fit so I can set the gap exactly where I want it.
Total Seal has a new ring out called the "Max Seal" or something like that. It's a gapless top ring and the reason for that design was to eliminate problems in their gapless 2nd ring set. Having a gapless 2nd ring while sealing well.... puts alot of pressure on the top ring. Too much pressure and you unseat the ring, the ring flutters... power goes out the window. The fix can be as simple as having the pistons machined with an accumulator groove, which puts a bit more voluem between the 1st and 2nd ring... helping aleviate the problem.
Honestly I haven't seen any performance increases from gapless rings and I've used them on two engine builds. Same thing from the guys I tend to run with who are mostly drag racers. If I wanted a good blower or nitrous piston, I'd go with a hardened JE HNS ring set, Speed Pro Plasma or Hellfire ring. They are proven performers.
