Piston rings

I heard something about ring gap effecting horsepower. Me and my dad dont see how ring gap effects anything. I would really like any info on this subject as far as benefits and drawbacks.

think of it as this the closer the ring gap is the less blow by that is allowed. the draw back to this is getting to much heat in the first ring were heat is highest can cause the ring to bind. larger ring gaps allow more blow by so, your seal and conpression is not as great as those with smaller gaps. you see now.
