Unhappy Piston Rings?

O.K. I have my heads off my '94 Z. So I decided to soak the tops of the pistons with Sea Foam Deep Creep. I did all 8 pistons. I went back a bit later & noticed that 7 of the 8 pistons still had a puddle of Deep Creep in them but the #1 piston was dry.. I loaded up my #1 piston again with Deep Creep & once again a couple hours later it was gone. Could this be a sign of a bad set of rings? The car has 86,000 on it.
I hope not....

Only 2 ways I know of to tell and neither of them are good for you at this point. Heads on and do a leak down test on each cylinder. or pull the piston. My personal opinion is it don't mean anything. could be the top ring gap is in the wrong place

Stop worrying

Thanks. I will do a leakdown test when I get the head on. I was hoping that maybe the ring gap was as you stated. Also I am not worried. I am just looking for an excuse....

In that case, dude you better build a 383 motor or a 396 motor because we all know they have better rings

It sounds to me like those rings are suffering from a condition known as "toosmallcubicincheritis", in which the only known cure is to replace the rings and bore/stroke it to a 383. See, since the rings are worn, the cylinder must be worn too necessitating a .030 over bore. Little tiny pieces of ring got in your bearings and now your crank is all ****ed up too. So right off the bat you need rings/pistons/crankshaft. Just get some 6" rods and you're all set. There's your excuse there!
