piston direction

hey all i have a question. i took out my pistons and am now reassembling the motor. the pistons are marked with a b and an arrow pointing in a direction. does this arrow point towards the back of the motor...... or should i stick with the manual and point the arrow towards the front.
d. by the way the notch that holds the rod bearing is on the right of the rod if you were to look from the piston down to the rod bearing and the arrow is pointing to the right. hope this helps. also the two dots and the cuts into the rod next to the cap bolts are facing the right too. please help.

Re: piston direction

The arrow goes to the front of the motor for reasons of pin offset.

The tang on the bearing is different on some motors, chevy, ford, chry...what you look for is the chamfered side of the rod which goes outboard of the two rods that are side by side...
/__| |__\ <-- like that. So that the bearing does not ride up the radius on the crank journal.

Re: piston direction

When ya install the piston with the arrow pointing forward the brg tabs are on the ground side of the crank(down pointed away from the cam) with the crank down on the stand. The tabs in the cap and the tabs in the rod are together on the same side(down). The chamfers have to face the left or right of the center of the rod journal as M1 said.
