pipes-mandrel ben or regular ben-HP

Ok . I know the mandel bent looks better and keeps the pipe open in the bens, Ok but what is HP / torque difference and is it worth the x money. any one had a dyno test before and after, seems that only 5hp is not worth it to me if that's all you get from the bens. I want to put LTs and 3in y-pipe on this weeknd, and let a muffler shop put in the edelbrock muffler and tail pipes that I want use, but my son saids no, to go with the mandel bent pipies and exhaust, mufflex or bassani system. I know there's alot of questions about exhaust, but I was hopeing for a little input on the different the bens and power.

for your current setup, I would imagine the mandrel bends as maybe a 5-10 hp gain at most, but if you have plans for your car in the future( heads, cam, stroker, charger, spray) the gain could be twice that, even more depnding on how far you want to go with the power

Depending on the depth of the bend, a compression bend can reduce cross-sectional area up to 10%, maybe a little more in some cases. In effect, the difference between mandrel and compression bent tubes in a worst-case scenario is like going from 3" tubing to 2.84" tubing, or from 2.75" tubing to 2.6". It makes a difference for higher horsepower cars but the tubing isn't where the worst bottleneck in the exhaust is initially.

Buy cheap buy twice...

I would just go with the mandrel, how much cheaper could it possibly be? Why not set yourself up just incase you want to go more radical later on?

whatever you do get stainless. dynomax is a great setup for really cheap. i had my friends catback delivered to me through paypal for less than 225. solid stainless, polished muffler and tips...sounds great.

remember, stock is good for stock. bigger is good for stock too, but bigger is better.

Yep, I let a muffler shop do the true duals on my car and now regret it. The bends are horrible in some places and the clearence over the axle sux.
I have a full universal mandrel bent setup sitting in my garage now as I'm going to cut out what I don't like that the shop did and do it my self by cutting and welding up the bends where needed and bought a piep expander so I can make them slip fit then weld together...should have done it this way the first time....I'll let you know if it dyno's any more than before, but at least the pipes won't hit the axle every time I go thru a dip...
Some of the bends I bet are about 30% restrictive on mine....and this guy came highly recommended for doing true duals over the axle on f-bodys..yeah right...
