I have/had a heads and cam (Advanced Induction heads, GM847 cam) LT1 making 412rwhp through a T56 and stock 10-bolt on the stock bottom end. Best it could do was low 12s as high as 118mph due to traction problems. I decided to get serious with it so I swapped in a 4L60E with a 4500 Vigilante, Strange 12-bolt, QA1 shocks, Moroso drag springs and about 100lb weight reduction. I had the thing back on the road for less than 12 hours when I spun a rod bearing and broke a rod at the top of 2nd gear, about 6800rpm. Anyway, heres whats left of the engine

Although I don't have pictures of them, it also destroyed the AI heads and camshaft. When the #8 piston broke it went up into the intake and got sucked down into the other cylinders, bent most of the valves then went out my exhaust. I had metal as far up my intake as my MAF sensor. Pretty much one of the worst bottom end failures I've seen in a while. Needless to say I have to build an engine from scratch. I have someone looking at the heads, if they are repairable at a pretty cheap price, I'll be selling them on here, real cheap. The new one is going to be better as I'm planing on building a supercharged motor. I'll keep you guys posted. If anyone has or knows of someone with a bare LT1 block, let me know.

CZ28.com needs a little smiley with him pooring some Old E on the ground and then taking a big a$$ drink. Sorry to hear about your engine. What are you planning on going with for your new setup? blown 355 would be a good choice.

Anyway, I had 82000 miles on the stock bottom end, about 10000 miles was with the heads and cam. Internally, the weak point for LT1s are the rod bearings on high milage engines. Unfortunately for me it had to happen at 6800rpm. At that speed it only takes a couple of seconds.
Re: pictures of whats left of my engine
I think I got ya beat....
Snapped 2 rods, blew up a piston, snapped off 2 valves, $1000+ damage to my heads (extensive welding and 16 new valve seats and guides), ate the cam, oil pan gone, 2 massive holes in the block, banged up the crank beyond realistic repair, and spun most of the bearings.
Trust me, I feel your pain.
My bottom end had 44k on it. It was an LE2 head cc306 motor.
Car was down for 9 months. Now its a 383. It will all be ok.... these things happen. You will be suprised how well they can fix heads. You cant even see the chamber that took a beating w/o looking close. It looked like someone took a hammer to the heads and about 100 blows... it was a sad day.

Re: pictures of whats left of my engine
I would say most of the carnage was due to the rod breaking....but indirectly the bearing spinning started the whole mess.
I was fortunate that when I spun my bearing it took out the crank and rod but nothing came apart.
