Pictures inside of the internals of a "SUPER RESTRICTIVE" Chokemaster ...

^Those baffels dont look like their restricting much of anything to me. Ok maybe a pony of two at WOT, but I'd like to see how people say these flow worse than stock. That is the muffler that comes in the Flowmaster American Thunder cat back with dual tips for a 93-95 LT1 Z/WS6. I think. Actually now that Im looking at it, that may be a Force two muffler since its a 3-chamber, so that makes my point even more so. If thats the VERY RESTRICTIVE flowmaster 3 chamber, how bad can the 2 chamber be lol....
Anyone have pics of "superiour" flowing crossflows cut in half so we can see/compare and end the debate of HOW bad a flowmaster really is? Id love to see a pic of Hooker's Aerochamber, cause I think they have no baffels, but im not sure.
The only way I see that muffler being of any kind of restriction is if it was on something making substantial power ( As in supercharged, TT'ed, something to that effect. That looks like it might loose 2 HP at best on a bolt on car compared to some of the best flowing designs out there.

Re: Pictures inside of the internals of a "SUPER RESTRICTIVE" Chokemaster ...
Ok I checked it out. That is THE muffler they use on the:
93-95 AT Cat-Back w/dual tips.
95-97 AT Cat-Back w/daul tips.
This is the more restictive one they use in some of their other LT1 cat-backs
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cg...ter/53033.html
This muffler is used on:
93-95 AT Cat-Back w/single tip
95-97 AT Cat-Back w/single tip
Also is used on some of the Force II systems.
Force III have even more baffels and are even quieter

Thanks Simple.
Do you know which 2 and 3 chamber mufflers they were using by chance? Seems like Flowmaster makes 3 million different mufflers

thats what i was wondering also, my guess is that they are 3 chambers as i dont think the 2 chambers are a very popular street muffler
but i really dont know for sure
and yeah they do make a boatload of different mufflers
Re: Pictures inside of the internals of a "SUPER RESTRICTIVE" Chokemaster ...
that is a great list and what is that, the worst hp made by an open exhaust with no real improvement in tq. that means on a typical street car cutouts actually hurt you. hmmmm, very interesting, now we see dyno proof that no back pressure at all hurts a typical street car. good find simple!!!!!

The choice of mufflers may make a difference to someone competing at the track but for the average Joe, myself included, we won't see the difference in performance from one muffler to the other. The only thing most people seem to care about is the exhaust note. My suggestion is stop wasting time trying to determine which muffler is restrictive or not and find the one that fits your budget AND sounds the way you like it. There are much bigger problems to worry about with LT1's, and as my uncle would say, "Don't sweat the little S!@T".

Re: Pictures inside of the internals of a "SUPER RESTRICTIVE" Chokemaster ...
Interesting list. Notice that the difference between the "top performing" muffler and the bottom, excluding the open pipes is a whopping 6 hp, with almost no difference in torque. That's 1.6%. I wonder what the natural variation of the dyno is. Even after correction, you can see more variation than that on dynos from the beginning of the day to the end.
Re: Pictures inside of the internals of a "SUPER RESTRICTIVE" Chokemaster ...
I have the series 80. Unless you dig the noise level INSIDE your car being somewhat high look elsewhere...otherwise I constantly get compliments with my exhaust.. However once the cat is gone...ITS LOUD!!!! We could hear my car WOT 4+ blocks away one night (not kidding). Like speedygonzales pick what you want..mufflers are cheap, replace it in a few years/months whatever if you dont like it. Have fun man.

and the CFM numbers, give an example of potential of each muffler that wont matter what car its on

You may want to update your info - I noticed that article was dated 2002 and technology has come a long way in 2 years. You may want to check out Flowmasters new Super 40 which has twice the flow than the old 2 chamber mufflers.
Here's the description and link.
Super 40 Series Muffler, 3.00" IN (O) / OUT (O), Same Side of Case, 5" x 10" x 13" Case: each. Significantly Outflows the older 2 chamber mufflers . . . • Even More Horsepower • Less Interior sound and Deeper Exterior Sound • New Patented Design • 5 x 10 Inch Case Modeled after our Race Mufflers • Classic Black Case • Far exceeds older models on Dyno Tests The sound of our new patented Super 40 makes everybody stand up and take notice - beautiful Hot Rod sound along with increased Horsepower and Gas Mileage!

Just a suggestion!

Didn't Flowmaster say THOSE were the best mufflers 2 years ago? We all know the truth on that don't we?
