pictures of failed optispark, questions
guys, im in the middle of tracking down the "high rpm stumble". so far i have changed fuel pump, spark plug wires, plugs, swapped out coils and icms, and now am coming to the opti. the one i currently have is my original oem with 130k miles. not throwing any codes. i am running a double roller t/c setup. but i pull it off and take it apart hoping to find something. there is a little (looks like oil) trail coming from the optical sensor plug that collected in the bottom of the housing...

and the grade marks on my cam bolts have imprinted into the opti drive hub...

so i figured i would swap in another used oem unit to see if there is any change in performance or symptoms. i took a unit off a 96 "baby lt1" that i have been robbing parts off and went to take the cap off but a screw broke, so i set it aside. then i took one off a 190k mile motor that had a broken crank thinking it surely had been replaced in its lifetime. this is what i found... (notice the loose rotor screw)

so i have 2 questions,
1) has anyone running a double roller had issues with the clearance between the cam bolts and optispark?
2) do you think the blown up rotor in the other optispark could have caused the crank to split?

Re: pictures of failed optispark, questions
Don't know about the first one, but the second one is possible I would say if the car was actually firing. Watched a video of one explode from the timing being too advanced in a 4cyl motor when I was in college. I don't know how strong these cranks are though. I would think the knock sensor would pick up before that happened though. Just a thought.
Re: pictures of failed optispark, questions
added mods in sig, also i thought i would add that the plugs are gapped to .055 for some reason. in doing some searching i see that most guys are running tr6's gapped at .035 or tr55's gapped at .050. am i running too large of gap?
