Re: picture of waterpump anyone?

Z95, I have hooker long tubes so there is no hole to block, and I have the hole blocked my CAI too. But for some reason the mechanic didn't remove the air pump.....what is the purpose of the air pump anyways? Just emissions?

Re: picture of waterpump anyone?

It is an emissions device but you don't need it. The pump only runs for the first few mins when you start the car and then shuts off. So you only need it for visual inspections. The 93-95's maybe 96's included have a recall because they always go out so they replace them with a better one. Mine was blowing the fuse all the time and setting off the SES light so i just took it off, but if you just unplug the air pump and take it off you won't get the SES light.

Re: picture of waterpump anyone?

(new member- just happen to be doing a water pump for the first time today and jumped in here)

So if I may ask- the AIR pump will not affect anything ( like throwing a code or tanking my mileage?). From the latter of these posts, it looks like you guys say it can be removed for a cleaner look. True?

Also, I've got a post concerning my own coolant leak problems-look for the one at 2:00 more or less today; I'd love to have anyone's advice I can. First real project on the LT1 for me.

Thanks, all.

Sorry about the misinformation. I remembered it included 95 as my car was eligible for it. Ususally its the first years that cars come out the problems a rise thats why i figured it was 93-95. Sorry about that.

Re: picture of waterpump anyone?

I took out the airpump today, and most of the bolts holding its metal bracket on, except for one, its on the bottom left side of the bracket, it just wont budge. If I push hard on the wrench and socket (I tried both) it just slips off, and its starting to get stripped. Is this bolt reverse threaded? I'm buying a compressor/air rachet tomorrow to see if it'll do the job.

Re: picture of waterpump anyone?

No reverse threads. Use a 6 point socket.

Re: picture of waterpump anyone?

Another question, I have hooker long tubes, with a highflow cat and a flowmaster muffler. I have the cai plugged off and the hookers have no emissions holes. If I remove the airpump will it make any difference in passing emissions? Im just curious, because if the headers alone will keep me from passing I'll just go ahead and remove it.

Re: picture of waterpump anyone?

my mouth waters when i see that, but what size socket takes off the bolts for the air pump bracket? Because either im using the correct socket already and the bolt is stripped (by a mechanic who installed the water pump). or I need a different size. The socket took the others off just fine.

Re: picture of waterpump anyone?

I had to go look on my cam removal page. AIR pump bracket bolts are 9/16" head size.
