i think im going to stick with the slip fits as i looked it up on other forums as well, but what do you mean by pre-formed band clamps ie order from summit or somewhere?

Yeah, you can get the stepped stainless band clamps from Jegs or Summit. You want the preformed stepped band clampes because the y-pipe is slightly bigger than the header collector and the stepped band clamp will hold much better. The slip fit vs flange is a personal preference and there are advantages and disadvantages to each setup. I think each works well so I wouldn't pay any extra for one vs the other.

I've already taken my y-pipe back off to make an adjustment with my cat-back and it came off very easy. I would much rather have the slip fit and it gives you a little better ground clearance as well. Just don't use the crush style clamps that come with the headers.
I am using the band clamps as a matter of fact and they seal surprisingly well. My only worry is when I have to take the y-pipe back off one day. Flanges would probably make it alot easier, but we will see.
