Titanium Intake Manifold...

Ok... just a question to any people that have experience with making sheetmetal intakes. I have a free source of Titanium sheetmetal, how hard would it be to make a Ti sheetmetal intake? I think that'd be kind of neat, and free So I figured I'd ask. I wouldn't be making any, just providing the measurements and dimensions and stuff.

If memory serves me right, you can only weld/solder Titanium in an oxygen free environment. You'd have to gasket/rivet it together. That is unless you can get into Boeing and weld at their facilities.

Edit: Yeah, you have to weld Titanium in an controlled atmosphere environment, mainly full of inert gasses. Same goes with welding Zirconium and Molybdenum.

rivets would be easy I'll ask if they can weld it, maybe they can, I've seen some come out of the shop welded before.

Getting an oxygen free environment is not that hard. Just use a welding purge tent. It is a small blow up tent that is see through. You fill it with say 100% argon and purge out all the oxygen. Viola! You can get them pretty cheap to.

You might want to give 3M and DuPont a call.

See if they have adhesive products that you could use.

Why not order one of these

It's made of stainless. Strip the paint off and tell everyone it's Titanium. Most wouldn't know which end of a screwdriver to use anyway.

Re: Titanium Intake Manifold...

You'd spend a butt load of $$$ to have the fab work done correctly. Bolt together or welded. If you did a 100% bolt together intake you'd play hell getting all the bends/joints correct to where you were not losing HP compared to a welded/radiused bend. JMO.
Nice to have a free Ti supply, LOL.

Re: Titanium Intake Manifold...

If memory serves me correctly Bret Bauer does make them and he is a somebody on here I'd contact him on this subject, if anyone could do it he could.

NOTE: He stated that he wouldnt be the one making it. Which would imply that someone else would be. He has only asked of the possibility.
