Perf and Handling Upgrades
Perf and Handling Upgrades
Just looking for some help on where to get started so if you could help me please give me a list of performance and handling upgrades from start to finish. Looking for good to great handling and low 12s without nos or supercharger but driveable (if possible). Thanks.
Subframes stiffen up the frame for handling and won't help much with what you're talking about, but definitely improve overall handling and how "tight" the car feels. I would begin concentration on your front end. Start with the basics, ball joints, and maybe a poly bushing kit and larger front sway bar if you're looking to improve above stock. Shocks are also very important and you have a wide ranges of choices there depending upon what you're looking for. Also don't forget about tire balancing and front end alignment which could be contributing to your vibration. You also might want to inspect your rag joint.
I did the above, a poly bushing kit, front shocks, (went with Koni SA's), and a 35mm front sway and replaced all of my springs with SLP take offs which are very reasonable. Had it aligned after that and was very impressed with the improved handling and "tightness" of the car. I also did weld in sub frames and put poly bushings in the rear LCA's. I wouldn't recommend the poly LCA option, I would just go ahead and buy some aftermarket LCA's, especially if you're interested in doing any drag racing. Some LCA's will bind under hard cornering so if you're interested in Auto Cross or more street handling boxed LCA's may not be the way to go. I also put new Bilstein shocks in the rear as I was looking for more road handling at the time. I'm now into straight line performance so if I had it to do over I'd probably have gone with QA1's. At any rate decide now what you want your car to do and it will help with the choices that you make in your suspension.
Good luck.
