pcv valve question

I think someone replaced the pcv valve in my car with a straight through elbow. After i bought it, i took it into a quick lube after i bought the car so i could put some synthetic in it (too lazy do it myself). They took a look at the pvc valve and noticed there wasn't one (straight through elbow instead). I haven't really wanted to look at it closer, because its normally 10 degrees outside at the moment .

I've got 2k miles on the oil change and my oil is looking pretty dirty i have noticed. How dirty does the oil normally get in an LT1 after a couple of thousand miles on an oil change?

I'm running mobile 1 10w30 wich seems pretty light for this engine, i'm thinkn about going to 10w40 next time unless someone else has a better weight recommendation

where exactly is the pvc valve supposed to be on this 95 LT1 engine? I would think it would be on the left valve cover where the pvc hose goes into it.

The PCV valve is located on the left side of the intake minifold (sorry, no pic, but I'm sure someone else will have one)

It's not on the valve cover. I think you're just at the wrong end of the PCV hose

Shoebox has pictures of everything, including the PCV valve on the drivers side of the intake manifold. The line you are looking at supplies air from the throttle body to the passenger side valve cover. That is the air that the PCV valve pulls through the crankcase and lifter valley to eliminate harmful vapor buildup.

Re: pcv valve question

The oil looking "dirty" is a relative thing. Just because it's looking a bit dark does not mean that the oil isn't holding up. You say that you put Mobil 1 in it- People run that stuff for 7500-10000 miles or more sometimes, although most people I know change it at 3000 out of habit or for peace of mind. I really wouldn't worry about it.

The Mobil 1 10w30 in your motor is on the light side of that viscosity rating. If it seems light to you, I would recommend the Mobil 1 0w40, I was very impressed with it when I tried it out.
