PCM auto shutdown?
is there such a thing for our Computers?
Suppose my ignition wires WERE mixed up so much that when I attempt to start the car..it makes one loud POP and then smoke comes out of the intake. After trying this a few times..my car now completely shuts down its power before the car even starts..when its in the ignition position is when it dies (not even giving it time to crank over). I know the battery is good..cause a few minutes later..I have full battery juice again, when the key is in the accessory position just before I attempt to start her. So after the POP..the PCM may be telling the car to wait..as to not further damage any internals..
Does this sound likely? Im gonna go re-route the wires and see if I just have them mixed up..Thanks guys for input. Derek

Hmmm...
Sounds like you are low on blinker Fluid!
Sounds like the opti. Maybe installed the wong way? I reaserched it for 'ya and it seems that it is possable to install the opti the reverse way. Check for that... Other than that I have no idea. NO fuel? Do you hear the pump working? Nuetral safety switch? Some kind of relay? Any SES codes? Be as descriptive as possable.

Re: PCM auto shutdown?
thanks jay..hey hows jury duty going?
As for the issue with my car...I do get power as I stated when I turn the key to the accessory position...I hear the fuel pump and all electical stuff works perfectly fine..I know I've got juice. The only problem is when I go to actually CRANK OVER the car the power completely goes out. No noises..nothing..just goes out. I dont even have to put the clutch in or anything..just turn the key to 'start' on the ignition and it all goes out. Not sure what it is.
I honestly dont think its a burnt wire or fuse cause one..i checked all my fuses in the car and Im not sure about the relays inside the engine area on the driver side..how do you tell if those are out..and would any of those effect the car starting up? And two..I dont think its a burnt wire because everything DOES work fine until I attempt to crank it..I just started doing this..I've always had plenty of juice and starting power..since I attempted to crank it and it started POPPING...right after is when this electrical issue started. By the way..I did go out tonight and re-route ALL the wires..I know for a fact they are correct now...but I wont know until it lets me start it...or atleast turn over. We'll see..not sure what else to do. Maybe I can hook my truck up to my car and try jumping it..but like I stated..that probobly wont do any good since the Battery DOES have juice..
Keep em comin guys..

Re: PCM auto shutdown?
What was done to your car immediately prior to this happening, or did it just spring up? Ie maintenance, upgrade, etc. Just to throw this out there, I once forgot to hook up the main ground wire on my battery, and it did something very similar.... and fried some smaller wire trying to start the car through it... maybe you could look for something like that???
Jonota
ps....verify that you get 12V on the starter with the key in the ON but not start position

Re: PCM auto shutdown?
OH hell thats easy!!!!
Ignition switch under the dash..might have melted the harness (mine did)... I would have complete power until I would goto start it..then nothing...except dome lights and the radio.. .all the dash power, etc would all turn off.
It wasnt very expensive..but I had pretty tore up hands after changing it (lots of wires/plastic to cut into you.) I would check that right away. (You can even test it with a good switch by unplugging the harness and just testing the new one prior to unbolting everything. Good luck..I had mine go out twice in a year...i know the symptoms very well.

Re: PCM auto shutdown?
actually..I figured it out!! YAY me! The plug wires were ALL mixed up on the passenger side..that was my main problem. I took them all out..labled them as I should have done the first time..then reinstalled them. Thats why initially the car POPPED and was not starting.
After that..as for the power issue...I messed with every fuse in the engine bay and inside the car..and they were all good..so then I messed with my battery terminals...turns out my Positive battery terminal is VERY sensitive for some reason and just needed to be loosened..set in just right and tightened again. WHAT A PAIN simple problems turn out to be huh!! Everything is great now and the Z runs perfect! I havent had this Z running for months..Im so ecstatic..yet winter is literally around the corner..crappy timing
..Just time for me to save up over winter to do stuff for next summer eh?
Thanks for all your advice guys...Derek
