Talking Passed Emissions with a 230/236 Cam

Well I just got through Tucson Arizona emissions testing with my new stroker motor. I passed easily:
A little over 10% of allowed Hydrocarbons idle and loaded.
35% of allowed CO @ idle and 0 under load.

Parts list that went into the motor:
Scat 9000 Series 3.75" Stoke Crank
Scat 6" 4340 forged I-Beam Rods (7/16 cap screws)
KB Hyper 19 cc dished Pistons
Melling M55 Oil Pump
Cloyes Timing Set
95 Opti Conversion
Comp XE 230/236 Cam (.544/.555 lift w/ 1.6 rockers)
ARP Main Studs (2 bolt mains)
Heads: AI full port job
Impalla Head Gaskets
AS&M Headers
Random dual cat Y-pipe
SPEC Stage III Carbon Clutch
PCMs For Less Programming.

I have not really thrashed it yet but I can tell that it's running very strong. I'll be taking it to the Dyno to tweek the programming once I have about 1000 miles on the clock.

A 230/236 cam in a stroker would be like a 220/226 cam in a 350. No great feat in passing emissions.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if emissions laws were passed in states that never had them before, wouldn't the laws only be effective for cars that model year or newer??

In California, at least, your car has to meet the standards in effect for the car when it was made. Even if your state has no standards of its own, the Federal Government still has standards. Usually, you'd be required to meet those standards.

I can sympathize with the smog laws because I live in Los Angeles. Because of the laws and testing, the air here has actually improved continually since the 1970s. Back then, they had smog alerts and you could actually SEE the air almost all summer. Now other areas in the country, such as Houston, have taken top honors for most polluted air in recent years. Given how bad it used to be, that is a major achievement.

Now, forcing people who don't have the issues we have here in LA to pass the smog checks is ridiculous.

Excellent point. Nothing wrong with emissions standards unless you wanna by pass them *which most of us probably do*...I'd pass right now even if we did have the tests still but I have a couple friends who wouldn't and that sucks.

I live on the far west side and I went to the County Inspection station between Ruthrauff and Prince on the eastbound I-10 Frontage road. PM me and maybe we can meet to check out our rides.
