Thumbs up Passed Emissions

I bought my 94 about a month ago, but it needed the inspection renewed, so while at the shop this weekend getting a magnaflow muffler welded in (good sound, highly reccommend) I decided to let them put it to the sniffer. I have what looks like a cat on my car, but judging by the smell and sound of the exhaust I'd bet that the previous owner hollowed it out. I didn't ask, call it "plausible deniability".

Anyway, as the sig says, it's mostly stock, and it passed. It was close to failing, which makes me even more suspicious, but I'm good to go for another year.

Just wanted to let everyone know that it is possible to pass without (I think) a cat.

Question

I have the same dilema too
I have a stock cat on my car and since I'm putting the headers/y-pipe next month. I got them used and they came with the empty cat which I do have to weld in in case I want to go with it.
Now my question is - is it worthy to get it all on the car. We do have emition tests and it wil be a bi*ch to swap it back just for it.

I have a feeling that the legal emissions limits in Canada are probably a bit more strict than down here in Texas, but that's just a guess on my part. You could always install your stuff right after getting it checked, and then take your chances in a year, who knows? Good luck with it though.

The gains from removing a cat on a mostly stock vehicle are very minimal and probably not worth the hassle or effort at inspection time.

thanks guys
the only good thing is that we have inspection every two years and I just passed mine - so I'm kind of safe on it for a while

I agree. Just leave the cat on there.

i bet the gains from removing the cat is actually more than an aftermarket catback. i know a couple guys who have single cat setups on their cars.. a 93 and a 94. one of them took off his cat leaving the stock exhuast and the other took off his stock muffler but left the cat. for some reason the guy who removed his cat had the louder car. that tells me the stock cat probably eats up as much power as the stock catback if not maybe a little more.
